120 Layer Damascus Chef with Black Stabilized Maple
Made as a 120 layer, 1084/15n20 Damascus steel variation on my pattern number 1, This blade offers a more elegant version of a tried and true classic.
The blade is a 3/4 hidden tang design, with charcoal black curly maple chosen as the main material. The handle has been stabilized with resin, filling any voids and making the wood more dense, more durable, and more water resistant, along with pigmenting it. The bolster is made from Huckleberry blue Corian, lined with white G10, meeting up to a mirror finished choil and spine, rounded for comfort for those who use a pinch grip. The heel of the blade is just around 2.75 inches tall, giving excellent clearance from the cutting board. Careful consideration is given to the edge profile, with a shallow curve that is rounded enough so only 1 point of the edge is making contact with the board, preventing undercutting over time, without forcing the user to raise the blade at an unnecessary angle when making tip cuts. The blade is also forged with a distal taper, making the spine reduce in thickness down the length of the blade
handle length: 125mm
blade length: 215mm
blade heel height 70mm
spine thickness 4mm, down to .5mm
