120 Layer Damascus K-tip Chef with Black Stabilized Maple Handle
As time has gone on, I’ve found myself fascinated by Japanese form and function. After visiting Sakai, a port town in Japan rich with Knifemaking industry, I was inspired to make my own version of the Kiritsuke style blade, with my own spin on it. this 120 layer Damascus steel chef is an even more elegant result of that design
The blade is 1084 high carbon, with a 3/4 hidden tang design, with charcoal black maple chosen as the main material. The handle has been stabilized with resin, filling any voids and making the wood more dense, more durable, and more water resistant. The bolster is Huckleberry Blue corian lined with white G10, meeting up to a mirror finished choil and spine, rounded for comfort. The heel of the blade is just around 60mm wide, giving excellent clearance from the cutting board.
It has been truly exciting exploring and working on this new style of knife, and I'm certain it will make an excellent kitchen companion.
specifications:
spine thickness: 3.4mm distal tapering to .5 at the tip
